![]() ![]() That is the reason I chose not to get the 2014 Mac Mini my wife has the 2012 much easier to upgrade. In short, I would go for the 2014 Mini with Iris graphics, flash storage and 16 GB RAM and pick the cpu and storage size to suit your budget. A good 4 TB external USB3 drive is < £150. Look at your current machine and see how much you're using. 256 GB is plenty for OS, applications and general user data (but likely not images, video). You get a huge increase in overall responsiveness with flash storage. ![]() The Iris graphics is a significant improvement over the HD5000. Faster clock speed will help more than going from 4 to 8 threads. In my experience, the task that maxes out the cpu is rendering previews in Lightroom on import. The processors support hyper-threading, so you get four simultaneous threads with the dual core cpus. Since you can't change this choice, best to go for 16 GB. 1 TB internal storage is plenty and USB3 (or TB) external disks are fast and - if USB3 - cheap.Ĩ GB is enough for photo editing, 16 GB allows for more applications open/working at the same time. ![]() The fact is that the architecture of these machines allows a maximum of 16 GB RAM - now and in the future - and you can buy it with 16 GB now. There's a lot of noise from people complaining about the 'lack of upgradability' of the new Mac Minis, which I think is really a complaint that it costs too much.

YouTube Music recently also added casting support for these songs on the free tier, finally catching up with its predecessor. ![]() Google Play Music's free version, on the other hand, only let you play mixes based on artists and songs on Google Home, limiting you to a random selection of songs.īoth platforms allow you to upload and listen to your own music without ads, in the background. The free tier is ad-supported, so if you're dealing with YouTube, you know what's coming at you. ![]() On a laptop or desktop, you can even enjoy songs with the Music website in the background. You can stream any song or video you like as long as you keep your display turned on and the app in the foreground. YouTube Music manages to impress with its free tier. If you used to share your Google Play Music account with children under the age of 13 as part of a family plan, you might have to look for another streaming service, though - the YouTube Music app is only available to children over 13. When you use Google's migration tool, your current plan will be moved over to the new platform and you'll end up paying just as much as you had before. In the future, you'll only be able to access YouTube and YouTube Music for the same prices. If you pay $12 for YouTube Premium, you used to get ad-free access to all three services, while you used to get both Play Music and YouTube Music for $10 a month. YouTube Music, Play Music, and YouTube have been intertwined for a long time. |
